The Falcon's Flight
An outdoor play suitable for all ages.
Waltham Abbey: Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd August
High Beech: Friday 27th - Sunday 29th August
The Falcon’s Flight is a newly written, play that tells the true story of the last Anglo-Saxon KIng, Harold, and his princess. Enjoy discovering exciting local history while walking in ancient Epping Forest, where King Harold lived and Waltham Abbey - his final resting place.
The Falcon’s Flight is a story of hope in the midst of hardship, inspired by the true story of Princess Gytha, the daughter of King Harold. Set after the events of the Battle of Hastings, Gytha and her family find themselves foreigners in their own country. As they flee death and persecution, they must fight to maintain their Anglo- Saxon roots - through war, bargaining and royal ties. As Gytha’s childhood world crashes around her, she is forced to become a pawn in a high stakes game. Refusing to let others decide her next move, and resolute in the faith inherited by her father, she goes on a journey (that is not without sacrifice) for her family’s survival and future legacy.
Waltham Abbey performances take place at Waltham Abbey Church Grounds, the final resting place of King Harold, and the meeting place is King Harold's tombstone.
High Beech performances takes place on High Beech's Accessible path, where King Harold and his family lived, and the meeting place is at the King Oak's pub.
Performances at both venues on Friday: 6pm and Saturday and Sunday: 2pm and 6pm. The plays are one and a half hours long.
