You are here: Things to Do > Attractions
The Epping Forest district covers rolling countryside including forest and farmland surrounding towns villages and hamlets. Each area is an attraction in its own right but some of the more outstanding places to visit include the Epping Ongar heritage railway, the historic towns of Waltham Abbey and Ongar, the world's oldest wooden church at Greensted, Copped Hall and of course Epping Forest and Lee Valley.
For those interested in exploring the district's past, the museum in Waltham Abbey is the ideal starting point. For aviation enthusiasts, a trip to North Weald Airfield is a must - and even if heritage flying isn't for you, the airfield has places to eat and a large open-air market on Saturdays and on Bank Holidays.
For families there's plenty to see and do at Ashlyns Farm or visit the Redwing Ada Cole Horse Sanctuary or Lee Valley Animal Adventure Park.
For the more adventurous, the forest is the ideal place for mountain biking, horse riding or just walking. Rope Runners can be found just beyond Ongar at the Secret Nuclear Bunker and a visit to the Lee Valley White Water Centre just outside Waltham Abbey will demonstrate there’s something for everyone at this Olympic venue.
Whatever your interest, from paintball to jazz, there’s more than enough to see and do across Epping Forest – and for those planning to make the most of it all by staying, there’s London right on the doorstep and a tube ride away.
