Cycling For Health and EFDC routes

Opportunities to get out on your bike and explore specially prepared routes in the district.

EFDC Rides:

A collection of Mountain Bike routes that have been planned and ridden with Epping Forest District councils cycling projects.

This collection of routes can be ridden independently with family, friends or on your own. They have already been enjoyed by many cyclists through the Epping Forest District Council’s cycling projects, created in conjunction with Epping Forest MTB.

They are mainly traffic free and give options to explore further afield with the chance to stop at a café on route.

For those who prefer to attend an organised ride then why not take part in the Cycling For Health programme that is offered by Epping Forest MTB: Cycling for Health - Epping Forest MTB

Cycling For Health:

The Cycling for Health programme is a series of weekly led rides originally set-up in partnership with Epping Forest District Council. Cycling is a low impact activity that can be enjoyed by absolutely everyone. Cycling For Health have various rides taking place each week on traffic free routes, with the rides at a sociable pace and typically having a mid ride stop for a chat over a cuppa.

The rides are graded from easy (▲) to hard (▲▲▲), this grading is based on the gradients encountered on the ride and also the surface types. A typical ride will cover in the region of 10 to 12 miles (15-19km) in total, depending on route and overall speed of the group.

These sessions are designed for riders that are looking to regain fitness, confidence cycling, and looking for a friendly cycling group. All rides are run on traffic free non technical terrain such as country parks, towpaths and bridleways.

Why cycle?

You can ride a bike almost anywhere.

Regular cycling can reduce the risk of a number of serious illnesses such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke.

It can also boost your mood, improving the symptoms of some mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.

Costs:
Ride Only: Bring your own bike and helmet £7.00
