The journey

This adventure offers an inclusive park and ride or tube and ride service from Epping station on board one of the Epping Ongar Railway vintage London buses. This will bring you to North Weird where there are reports of ghosts haunting the station, can you help the station staff find them all?  

Why not enjoy a calming hot drink or other refreshments from the LNER cafe on platform 3?

Then take a steam hauled journey on a full size ghost train... but watch our for the living dead who are lurking on board who may scare and entertain in equal measure! There will be a short break at Ongar where the Manic Magician will enthrall and entertain with his mysterious magic show. The train will then return to North Weald via the ancient and eerie Epping Forest. 

Refreshments

The LNER cafe at North Weird will be open serving a selection of hot and cold snacks and hot and cold drinks which you can take on onboard the train. The Buffet Stop at Ongar will also be open for hot drinks and confectionery. 

 

At North Weird

There are reports that North Weird station is haunted by a number of ghosts; After checking in at the booking office can you help find them all?

 

At Ongar station

There will be a short break at Ongar station during the journey,

  • Watch the manic magician's mysterious show
  • Check out gruesome graveyard
  • Get hands on at the spooky craft table
  • Have your face painted (additional charge applies)

 

Times

Your experience starts on the inclusive Park and Ride vintage London bus service from Epping Underground station. This will take you to North Weird where you can join the full size ghost train!

Buses depart from the front of Epping Underground station at the following times:

  • 10.40
  • 12.40
  • 14.40
  • 16.40 - not 25 or 31 October

The bus will return you to Epping Underground station after the ghost train returns to North Weald. You should allow approximately two and a half hours for the experience. 

Getting there

Don't forget the experience starts on the vintage London bus from Epping station. It is easy to get to Epping via the London Underground Central Line. Epping station is in zone 6 and just 30 minutes from Stratford. The vintage London bus departs from right outside the front of the station.

There's only parking for disabled passengers at North Weird, which must be pre-booked. You will not be able to start your journey at Ongar.  

Parking is available at Epping station (postcode: CM16 4HW). There is also a public car park in Cottis Yard just off Epping High Street (postcode: CM16 5DN). Charges apply at both locations.  The vintage London bus will call at all bus stops along Epping High Street - please signal clearly to the driver if you wish to board here.

Accessibility

  • Disabled Parking - There is very limited parking available at the stations, with priority given to blue badge / disabled customers. Please drive and park with care, avoid blocking access and with consideration of our neighbours.
  • Disabled persons toilet - Ladies and Gentlemen's toilets are available at Ongar and North Weald stations. Baby changing equipment is included within the Family Room / Ladies Waiting Room facilities at both stations. Disabled toilets are available in Ongar High Street (400 yards from station). Unfortunately, while we have enabled step-free access to Ongar building, the Grade II listed 1865 station does not accommodate a wheelchair accessible toilet. We have recently installed a new disabled toilet in our outlet building at North Weald.
  • Facility for service dogs - Well controlled dogs, guide and assistance dogs are welcome on our railway at no extra charge. However we are unable to accept dogs, other than assistance dogs, on our dining trains. Should your companion feel thirsty, there are usually water bowls on the platforms with fresh water available. If you cannot find these, please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Guide Dogs Permitted - Well controlled dogs, guide and assistance dogs are welcome on our railway at no extra charge. However we are unable to accept dogs, other than assistance dogs, on our dining trains. Should your companion feel thirsty, there are usually water bowls on the platforms with fresh water available. If you cannot find these, please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Parking Areas for Disabled Visitors - There is very limited parking available at the stations, with priority given to blue badge / disabled customers
  • Wheelchair user accessible - We are able to accommodate visitors with disabilities and in wheelchairs. Our Railway Access Statement - Policy for Disabled People is available to view online. We also have the "Buffet Stop" at Ongar, also selling hot and cold drinks, crisps and snacks. We recommend the Picnic and Viewing Area at Ongar to relax and unwind, offering a grandstand view of the station and locomotives. At North Weald we have a number of picnic tables around the site that you are welcome to use. There are a number of local pubs and restaurants in both Ongar and North Weald, all offering hot meals.
