As part of the King Harold Festival 2025, join a talk by Grenville Weltch of Friends of Waltham Abbey Church and the Waltham Abbey Historical Society, on the 1960s restoration of Waltham Abbey Church.
This talk will cover the significant restoration of Waltham Abbey Church that took place from 1960 to 1964. A major aspect of fundraising for this project was the connection between King Harold and Waltham. As part of the restoration, a statue of Harold, created by sculptor Elizabeth Muntz, was installed in a niche on the southwest buttress of the church. Join us to learn more about this important restoration and the pivotal role that Harold has played, and continues to play, in the history of both the church and the town.
