About

The market has about 84 stalls at present with many traders having plied their wares for over 20 years (some second generation). There is always a very good stall selection with little duplication where possible. This leads to a pleasant, friendly atmosphere enjoyed by traders and customers alike.

“Epinga” as it was known around the Doomsday Book of 1066, was a collection of farms and a chapel. Today, Epping has become much larger developing from forest land into the Town we see now.

The market continued to grow with the town as it was on a main stagecoach and mail coach route with about 25 coaches passing through a day. In 1253, King Henry III gave Charter status to hold a market once a week on a Monday. The market was renowned for selling wives in its’ early days! Epping became the centre of trade in the area and has continued ever since. This included a livestock market which was still present until 1961.

Today’s market on a Monday attracts visitors from many localities, far and wide. It has a great reputation for quality and service with good transport links into the town. While here, there are many places to eat and relax, catering for all tastes and budgets so why not come to experience THE place to shop on a Monday.
